Were there any whose families were regular middle/lower middle/working class people?

Second Question: Do you think the social class of the President matters regarding the prosperity of the average American?

  1. 1.  No, but you can't be middle or lower class and be able to raise the kind of money it takes to be president.

    2.  Not at all.  Both McCain and Obama are rich and college educated.  If anything it shows that they are good with money and at least have some money management skills.  Would you would someone that has never had money managing large amounts of money for the first time?  That idea never made much sense to me.

Edit:  Presidents have grown up middle/lower class, sure, but when they ran for president they weren't in those classes.  I thought the question was whether or not they were middle/lower class when they ran.  Sorry if I interpreted the question wrong.

  2. Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, at least.

  3. I agree with Kenta.

I think money is a sign of success and smarts (especially if they started out with nothing).

  4. If you mean Presidents who were not born into wealthy families, then Clinton, Reagan, Carter, Nixon, LBJ were all from non-wealthy lineage.

But I don't see it as being a signficant factor in how they govern. There have been good and bad from both humble and not-so-humble origins.
