Besides the science behind it, that the plant would die because of environment conditions, have they ever just tried?

  1. Nope

  2. no not at all................it was only in a story whose name i dont remember

  3. No, but if they do not want to contaminate they could bring some back over here and do test. I think that is a smart idea. I have no clue why they dont think of these things...very good q!

  4. No, man is searching for past or present life on Mars and whether water exists. If water does exist it would assist greatly in producing fuel fur us to stay longer and provide some sustenance for man to live without taking a load of water and hamburgers there on the trip.

Once a settlement is made it will be able to produce some food in a biosphere, that is when we may need to plant things but in a green house shielded from the outer atmosphere or lack of it so people can breathe inside that without needing a spacesuit..

But no throwing rocks please, and vegans need only apply..

  5. It would have less chance than a plant in the middle of the Sahara desert.

  6. No, we haven't tried nor will we for the forseeable future.

In fact, we have gone out of our way to limit any contamination of Mars. This is includes micro-organisms, hair, skin cells etc.

If we wish to determine if life ever existed or does exist on Mars we must take very precaution against contamination.

  7. No, they've never bothered to schlep a plant all the way to Mars, just to plant it and watch it die. What would be the point of that? They've never taken a hot dog to Mars either.

  8. i think the hot dog would stand a better chance of survival.
