  5. if you relax,  you can come out of your body.  It's called Astral Projection.  I do it all the time and it's not dangerous as people who have'nt experienced it would probably tell you.

    .

  6. Maybe you should see a doctor. It might be something serious...

  7. yes, i've had that quite a bit, its called sleep paralysis.

It can be caused by a number of things. Stress, changing sleep patterns or locations, and can be a side effect of other sleeping disorders.

  8. "Sleep paralysis" scientifically defines this phenomenon, but what does it actually explain? When spirits try to contact/possess mediums, they manifest themselves by paralyzing the body. Sometimes tingling and shaking sensations will follow. This is more likely to occur while sleeping because the mind is in a trance-like state; unconscious and separate from waking, logical thought. In another dimension, if you will. It's something controversial, and a concept not grasped nor welcomed by many; but it's happened to me, I've heard of multiple cases in other people; and if you choose to believe that paranormal contact is something real, a case involving paralysis at night is believable.

  9. I have not experienced sleep paralysis, but enough people have to give scientists a general idea of what it's all about.

There is no need to clutter up an explanation with any unnecessary paranormal--and completely unsubstantiated--explanations.  To confuse the matter in this way is just plain stupid.

  10. The first answer is correct, that is sleep paralysis, I have had it myself since I was a young child.  I do not believe it is paranormal.  It seems to occur to me when I wake up suddenly for whatever reason, either from a shocking dream, or from something sudden.  Last time it was from thunder during a storm.  When I wake, I often think I see someone in the room with me, often moving very realistically, on one occasion I had the feeling that someone was choking me.  It can be frightening, especially if you don't understand what it is, but personally, I believe it is more like a dream-state in which your mind is half-conscious, but still half-asleep.  Once you understand what it is, it becomes far less frightening.  I can usually shake it off by telling myself to breathe deeply and slowly a time or two, and then I'll come out of it.

By the way, I do believe in ghosts and the paranormal, and have seen many things to make me believe in the spiritual world..... but, this isn't one of them.  It certainly can seem that way to people who this only occurs to occasionally, but this happens to be very physiological.
