Have we banned HCFCs yet? Or is it just CFCs now?

The Montreal Protocol banned CFCs among others, but as far as I know HCFCs have not been banned. They should, they still are depleting the ozone.

  1. Neither CFCs or HCFCs have been banned as chemical families.  What  Montreal did was ban "ozone depleting substances" of which many CFCs were the main culprit.  It is just easier to say "CFCs", so that is how that started.  Some HCFCs are regulated and being phased out.  Read the details at the USEPA webpage on the subject.  You can make CFCs and HCFCs that are not ozone depleting, they just are not volatile.
