Question:

Have you been diagnosed with untreatable AMD?

If so, do you love reading and how are you coping with the knowledge that eventually you will have only peripheral vision? Can we just hope that a cure will be found, as there has been with wet AMD?

I have lost the sight of one eye due to wet AMD and am now a bit despondent that my 'good' eye is at risk from the incurable 'dry' AMD but I understand that it can take years befiore you are seriously affected. Any views please?

  1. Hi Athena,

You can only try to slow donw the degeneration process by taking a diet containing a lot of Vit A and Lutein. Spinach has a lot of Lutein which is an antioxidant and can slow the process of macular degenration.

You can also take supplemental oral anti-oxidants.

I suggest you, that if you are losing your vision gradually, then you must learn braille.

Try and talk to some vision rehabilitation centres about learing braille.

The best I can do is wish you good health.

    :-)

  2. I don't have AMD but I do have progressive and incurable vision loss.

Learn braille. It's the best thing you can do for yourself- it means being able to continue loving reading no matter where your vision goes.
