  1. you could look for a Nairobi/Mombasa package, where you get to travel and see the safaris all around Nairobi as well as the beaches in Mombasa

Someone recommended Zanzibar in the answers above, which is a really good idea, coz Zanzibar is beautiful, but its in Tanzania, you might get into immigration troubles or something..you'll have to have a Tanzanian visa (probably about 100 bucks- I dont need a visa to get into those countries so its a ballpark figure)

  2. No i have not.

  3. Yes, the travel industry has changed dramatically and the types of holidays that many clients want are totally different from the "9 - 5 masaai safaris" that most travel companies in Kenya offer. The way people buy has altered significantly and kenya has kept pace with those changes.  If you know what you want for a Kenyan safari (which most tourist do),  plan it yourself with guidance from an independent travel specialist.

And yes, you can combine bush and beach.

  4. I've been to Kenya many times (my hubby is Kenyan) and been on safari.

    Reputable web sites to try:

    www.somak.com

    www.gateway-holidays.co.uk

    www.africansafariclub.com (or .co.uk - i can't remember!)

You can combine a safari with a stay at the coast - I'd recommend North coast rather than South. You can organise your combined trip from here or you can just book a package deal here and organise your safari trip at your hotel. The hotels have all the big name reps coming by every day/2 days. This is how we booked ours. We went to Tsavo East Safari Park - about a 3 hour drive from Mombasa. This was with Somak. They provided transport, game drives, overnight accommodation, food etc all for the price we paid - only thing extra was the entry to the park (approx £10/$20).

Great choice for a holiday - you'll have a total blast!!

  5. Yes!

I have been on two safaris

each time we stayed at the southern palm hotel, its 5 star but has really good deals, if you go in the rainy season you get but one week get another week free (around may time) and its not uncomfortably hot but still glorious and you'll get a killer tan : )

and we then booked through the hotel a safari trip, there are different routes you can take, we went to amboseli one time, and the other time we went to the masai mara.

we got to see loads, and it was one of he best experiences of my life!

all the staff in the hotels are SO helpful and friendly, and I'll never forget having hippos outside my tent!

    have a good trip!

  6. Yes, I have and it was amazing! A safari is so unlike any other vacation you have ever been on. Being just a couple of feet beside a lion in its true habitat, it's just awesome.  I'm sure you could combine it with the beach, I haven't but then again the place that I was would have been several hours from the beach. Once we got into the reserve it took a couple hours just to get to the hotel bc the roads are so undeveloped. I believe the place we went to was Mara Siria camp. It was great, an experience you'll never forget. Their website is www.mara-siria-camp.com/en/index.html

  7. we have been to mombasa in kenya many times, you just book a package holiday(best to opt for all inclusive)and when you arrive at your hotel it is more economic to book and pay for a safari locally, there are many tour companies outside the hotels, most people opt for a 3night 4 day safari to tsarvo east, tsarvo west and amboseli, good luck

  8. I have lived here since 1977 and you will simply love it. Someone has recommended North coast over our south ... well let me tell you there is no comparison where the actl beach (sand & sea) is concerned! South wins by an Olympic Record!! The reef is only half the distance, the sea is visibly bluer due to the lack of underwater growth that colours the north a greener colour (i'm thinkin bout your pics here!). The idea of 'Beach & Bush' is well catered for and will depend entirely on your budget. I would suggest you book your beach holiday as your main agenda.... get your tan and be relaxed and while doing that get local info on your planned Safari which can be amazing. Get to one of the beach bar restaurants here and dicuss a suitable safari with a resident. Booking online with photos only to go by can be risky. Take one of the fantastic 'Dhow Trips' out into the sand bars, relax on cushions and swim with the dolphins! Visit our local mini Game park up in the Shimba Hills or spend the night in Shimba Lodge its a 45 minute drive from your sun-lounger! All beach hotels vary considerably in service and sometimes its fun to simply take a self catering beach cottage and spend your money on other things. Dont be persuaded to take Larium for anti malaria... its overkill!  Why not take a scuba diving course and return home PADI certified after seeing wonderful underwater sights. If your budget allows you could fly up to Lamu Island (Princess Caroline's hangout) for a night or just lunch! My son happens to have a twin engine plane! Or go the whole hog and nip down to Zanzibar (50 mins flying along the beach) for a couple of nights. This is why I suggested the self catering cottage.. you can take off without worrying what meals ur missing! If you need any help U can get me on ezpz4u2@yahoo.co.uk

  9. i have stayed here since i was born and let me tell u kenya at large is good the best place is The maasai mara , the simbahills the beaches at the coast so if u have never been here plis come and visit  but all recommend the maasai mara so that u can witness the migration of the  wild beast which i think is the seventh or eith wonder of the world

  10. Haven't been to kenya but did a couple of safaris in botswana and loved it and I ve been to cape town that was amazing and beaches lovely . I ve heard tanzania is good for safari and Zanzibar  has gorgeous beaches that's where I d choose to go instead of kenya now altho bet kenya is fantastic just food for thought .
