Have you been this person?

So everyone tells me not to lend money to others. If it is commonly agreed that people tend not to pay money back, the why don't those people who are borrowing money just ask themselves, "will I be able to pay this back? Maybe I shouldn't borrow it."? I mean, I'd never ask someone for money if I know I can't pay them back!

Have you ever wondered this?

  1. People get desperate and have good intentions but some people don't honor their promise to pay back.  If I give someone money I always do it as a gift. That way it will never be a problem between us.  I don't give money I can't afford to lose.

  2. I once loaned a friend $200.00 to help in an emergency, to be paid back within a month at no interest.  I haven't seen that "friend" since then and it has been 20 years.  As I look back I begin to realize that it was a good investment.

  3. Or one week a bunch of punks could ice pick 6 tires on two cars and then a windshield gets cracked and then SSI could decide to cut your payments by $200 erroneously and then your Wife's ex husband could just decide to stop paying his $700 a month in child support without warning and then you could need surgery and have to go out of work for two months.

Not all who find themselves unable to pay you back are doing so because they are selfish and spending the money on frivolous things.  Sometimes it's just a matter of circumstances which appear at the time to be getting better instead getting worse.

We've borrowed money with the full intention and prospective ability to pay it back and before or when the money to pay it back became available other things happened like our dog who got very ill and had to be put down and consuming several hundred dollars for vet fees, x-rays and processing costs.

  4. There are 2 kinds of people in this world-Those that give a **** about others, and those who only care about themselves. The people who only care about themselves will borrow money, maybe even intending to pay it back, but something will always come up so they are unable to repay. For instance, they might owe you $100 and were suppose to pay you back $10 a week. But, one week they'll have a bad day and spend the money on a 12 pack of beer. The next week, there will be a bunch of people going out and they will spend the monry on that. The next week they will have to have that new shirt. These people feel entitled. I can't stand them.
