  1. I was there as a soldier from 1982-1985...In Karlsruhre.  Yes, I had a great time.  Visited most of southern Germany and got to meet with some of my relatives.

  2. yes 3 times

it was ok, bit boring, and full of annoying Germans!

  3. Yes,went to Heidelberg.What a beautiful city to visit.

  4. Have been there several times. Enjoyed it and will go back as soon as there is an opportunity,

  5. I have lived here for over 3 years.  It is definitely different living here than visiting.  There is a ton to see and do.  Living here is different though.  German laws sometimes don't make much sense.  One of my german friends described it all to well.  He said "Germans think that if something is easy, it is stupid".  You can totally see that with the laws.  A typical work day for a German goes like this, they come in at about 8-9 am, then go on lunch from 11-1 and close the business, then close at like 5 in the evening.  Plus they have entirely to many holidays, everything is closed on sunday, and most of the day saturday too.  In May alone, they have 7.  So, it may be good for them,  but as an American living here, it is a pain.  Hmmm, what else.  Oh, they are taxed out the butt for everything.  You actually make more money not working in Germany than you do working.   I could go on for days about things that just don't seem right living here.   It is against the law to wash your car or do yard work on sundays, I mean hello, for some of us that work for a living, that is the only real down time we have to do that sore of thing.

Yes it is different to what I expected - before I came I still had a seterotype in mind - eve though my bf is German. I enjoy it here - but it is hard somethimes - Germans and German is/are a very direct /language.

So even when they don't mean to be, Germans can sometimes be seen as harsh.

But looking past all of that - I am still here after a few years - so something must be good here!

  19. I lived in Germany for 3 months on an exchange.  I actually lived in the Jagerhaus in Esslingen.  I LOVED GERMANY.  Contrary to some world views, germans are some of the most wonderful people out there.  Many of the elders that I met, made every effort to speak english to me although their last meeting with someone english was during their times in the hitler youth.

What  an amazing bunch of people.  They are proud and loving.  They do not speak of their countries past but their education system is incredible!  The schools and ways of teaching far surpass that of the Canadian school system.

I loved it and miss it so much!  The castles the history and so much preservation.  It is an amazing country that everyone should try to see at least once.  People know how to feed and share with others.

I loved it and would go back again anytime!

  20. yes. i hated it the people were so unfriendly. most germans i'd met on my travels were friendly so i was surprised. i won't be going back.
