Have you been to Jenolan Caves?

I'll be going there next weekend and will most likely be doing the Plughole adventure tour in the Elder Cave.

Has anyone here been on this tour? It says it's the easiest of the adventure tours, but what is it like? I'm not claustrophobic, but I'm not too fond about the idea of squeeze-through narrow tunnels either. How narrow do the tunnels get?

  1. I like to stick to the guided tour .

  2. No

  3. I have been to there but NOT the tour you mentioned. Because the cave system is so large, there are lots of tours that will suit anyone who can walk. There are tours that you will not have to crawl or squeeze through and you don't even have to wear any special clothing. Just be mindful though that some area of the cave can get quite cool. so bring something warm.

I went there with a group of kids under 14 years and even the kids found it very easy for them. We took the tours that have walkways and stairs. NO PROBLEM at all.

As long as you follow the guide's instruction, you will be fine. JUST REMEMBER NEVER to touch anything. It takes A LONG time for even a small change to happen so touching something could ruin 500 years of natural works. It is so annoying to see even full grown adults who go there and wipe their hands on rocks and "fiddle" with their finger (and basically deposit their oil on their skin on the rock and stop any natural process to occur- thus ruin it for their great grandchildren) - But I am sure you are already knowledgeable in such issues.

You might be surprised at how popular the place is. I certainly was shocked when I see the amount of people who turn up there on the weekend for the various tours.

    Enjoy the trip.

  4. The Jenolan Caves are great. I have been on a couple of tours but can't remember the names of them I'm afraid. The caves are awesome. The ones I went to were big and rather spacious.

Wear sneakers or comfortable boots, and take a warm jumper as the caves can get cold, and also take a torch.

    Have a great time.
