  1. Yes, I've been there many times, most recently twice in the last year.

It's a quiet town on a lovely big lake, the Woerthersee, which is relatively shallow and therefore warm -- great swimming.  There are resort towns around the lake, and you can find entertainment, casinos, nice cafes and shore promenades there.  There are many historic sites in the general area.  It's wonderfully located for taking day trips in all directions, including the Dolomites of northern Italy, which are spectacular just south of there.

All the locals complain that the Woerthersee area is full of Germans, but I have not heard complaints about too many Brits.  There certainly aren't too many Americans.

  2. no

  3. Been there twice, it's lovely, great big statue of a dragon if I remember correctly, lots of tourists of all nationalities but like all Austria it's beautiful.

  4. When I was last there it was delightful.

    Cold and rainy but delightful.

However, that was on the 3rd August 1970.

I think it has stopped raining now and the sun has come out.

  5. Klagenfurt is a beautiful place.  If you can  make sure you visit Badgasteuin while your in the area.  The area is close to Slovenia, you should also visit there as well, beautiful country!!

As far as your question of Brits abroad I have to say no.  English is a very common second language in Austria although not as much as it is in Germany.  Bring a good phrase book!!  Enjoy your trip :) :) !!!

Austria is a great place to visit with some of the most friendly people you will meet!!
