Which part of the 70's?  There are 2 very distinct eras:  Early 70's is Hippie and late 70's is Disco - totally different clothes, attitude and music .......I went to ALOT of birthday parties, IN the 70's!  So, yes, I'm over 30 (and so are my kids - lol)  ...and I had lots of fun.......In fact, I went to a birthday party for one of the Iron Butterfly (In-a-Gadda-da-Vida) way back when:)

No im not over thirty but i really enjoyed my friends 70's themed party. we had loadz of funky music and everyone dressed up and did loadz of funii dance steps and things. also im a s**a 4 gud food and that wat there was!

I have been to a 70's theme party, it was a blast.  So fun to watch people find cloths from that era, music was pretty good from the 70's - - today its played on the oldies station. . lol.  The bell bottoms and clogs with funky shirts, heck some of the style is worn today, just more fashionable.  And yes, I am over 30:-)  

My sweetie is have a milestone B-Day in October - our theme Austin Powers and we are telling people about it now, and everyone loves the idea and some already have their costume.  It will be big fun.

I was a teenager in the '70's and am not sure why everyone is so into that time period.  The fashions were not too different from today though so it wouldn't be too hard to dress the part.
