Have you been to any of the following Vegas casinos?

Binion's

El Cortez

Circus Circus

Palace Station

Tuscany

Riviera

If so, what was your experience? How was the room? The cocktail waitresses? The dealers? The competition? What games did they spread?

  1. Binions: Great place to gamble, friendly staff and fast drinks at the Blackjack tables - plus it is downtown!

Circus Circus - good Blackjack rules for a strip Casino ( although way north, lol ) and fun. Slow service, but GOOD drinks, lol.

Riviera: Not a great casino, but had some fun at the Blackjack tables. Friday night the place seemed to fill up with very friendly young gals of the California persuasion. Hmmmm?

    Good luck!

  2. Go to cheapovegas.com.  This is one of the best Vegas reference sites that I have ever checked out.

OK, Binion's is great for poker and bad for everything else. Kind of dark and a little dingy.

Circus Circus is affordable but there are a TON of kids running around there. It is great for familes going to Vegas, but for anyone else, I would stay away.

Palace Station is a very nice casino with good rooms, friendly staff and a good variety of games. But the location is tough. It is off the strip and a good 10 minutes away from all the action. They do have a shuttle you can catch that takes you to the strip though.

The Riviera is as smoky as they come. It was built in the 40's and you can tell. Dirty, dark and smoky, but the tables are cheap for the strip. The rooms are dingy with stained carpets and even the non-smoking rooms are smoky.

I have never stayed at El Cortez or Tuscany.

If I had to choose from the list, I'd go with Palace Station. Affordable rooms and gambling plus the shuttle to the strip helps with getting you to the action of the strip.

Also check out tripadvisor.com.   Very good reviews of all hotels.   Good luck out there!! You will have a blast!

  3. Been to Binions, Circus Circus and Riviera.  Not sure what rooms were like at Binions.  Played poker there.  Poker room was fine.  Stayed at Circus Circus.  Older rooms but still nice and clean.  Low buy ins.  Didn't care for the Riviera.  Lot of senior citizens there.  Quiet for a casino when we were there.  Older casino.  Could use some updating.

  5. Mr luva's answer was spot on from my experience. But, unless you just really want to stay at those places for the 'old vegas' feel - you don't need to. I'm guessing you are looking at room rates published on the casino websites or by affiliates and asking about these places because they seem inexpensive.

I know I sound like a broken record always pushing swavacations but (assuming southwest services your city or you can easily drive to an airport they fly out of) there is absolutely NO cheaper way to travel to and stay in Vegas, and you will never stay in a place of less quality than the stratosphere (no ribs, it's the lowest quality  property offered :)) and you can stay at *much* finer places when you buy the flight/hotel package. Four stars sound comfy? El Cortez might push one and a half? You have to walk up stairs to get to some rooms! Or used to.

Cheapovegas IS a fun site to read up, and I'd keep a browser or tab open to tripadvisor so you can compare, and if southwest air is an option for you, keep that page open too and you'll have a well researched, best possible value vacation planned before you know it!

  6. I was in circus circus for about 4 minutes.  Stepped of the red carpet and..bang...back outside....banned
