I am trying to plan my trip to Pamplona next summer for the running of the bulls but Ive having trouble figuring out how to get there. Most flights go to Madrid and Barcelona..My Question is, if you have been, how did you get there? Where did you stay? What would you do different? etc

  1. Well, I haven't been to Pamplona, but I've seen the alternative of San Sebastian de los Reyes, near Madrid. Basically is like the Pamplona show, but not as famous as it.

  2. Pamplona is amazing! If you can't find a connecting flight from Madrid to Pamplona try to travel by bus or other public transportation. That way you won't get lost and it saves you from having to get gas and parking. I don't have a suggestion on where to stay but book now!!! I didn't get to run with the bulls (it was sad) but after talking to those who did their best advice was if you plan to run with the bulls run sober and then celebrate afterwards!

  3. I've been there twice and have a total of 7 times.

I flew into Barcelona and took an overnight bus to Pamplona then I took a train to Madrid when I left.

I stayed in the streets along with thousands of others. It was freezing cold at night though.

The main events are the bull runs which start at 8 am. The bulls run into the arena where for about half-an-hour people play around with bulls with banded horns. The bullfights take place in the late afternoon. There's usually fireworks in the evening.

  4. YEAHH everytime that I go, I take CHICAGO to MADRID and from Madrid you can take a small airplane to a mini airport in PAMPLONA/NOAIN...its worth it especially because you won't have to actually drive 4-5 hours from madrid to pamplona:)

Also if you dono't have family over there; depending on how long your going to stay, a small motel in the plaza is always great to stay in.

  5. You can easily get a bus to Pamplona from the main bus station in Madrid (Avenida de Americas).  The trip takes about 5 hours, and you can book your bus ticket online at http://www.movelia.es

The bull running is held at 8am, so it's better to have accommodation close to the city - it's a small city to easy to walk from the suburbs.  There will be cheaper places in surrounding towns, but it's impossible to get into central Pamplona in time for the bull run.

Hotel prices triple for the San Fermin Festival (official name) and bookings sell out fast.  So, if you want to go next year, you will need to make a decision very soon.  Look for cheaper hotels in the suburbs of Villava and Burlarda, about 4kms from the centre, but there are buses or you can walk it in one hour.
