Has anyone else been told that? I want to know if you have had any trouble conceiving. I was told this at 18 and that I had to stay on birth control until I want children, then my doctor said "then you'll have to take more pills and go to more doctors". I never cared about having kids, until I turned 23 and something changed, I have that intense "maternal instinct or yearning". Now I am quite worried I won't be able to have children. Has anyone else gone through this? I had an ultrasound and everything is normal except for the hormone thing. I'd love to hear if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks.

  1. I know this sounds weird, but are you overweight?

The reason I'm asking is because when I was at my heaviest weight, I had a complete hormone imbalance, and had to go on the pill for the same reason - No progest. In fact, my hormones were so out of whack, that I had my period for 2 1/2 months STRAIGHT, because it was all estrogen in my system. This also happened when I was 18.

Another huge side effect to being overweight or obese is problems with fertility. Just the same, if you are underweight, a runner with low body fat, or annorexic, bulemic, etc.

However, if you are thinking of having kids in the near future definately go in talk to your OBGYN and have them run a blood test to check for hormone levels. Chances are it might not be anything clinical or disease associated with the low or absent levels. However, if it is, then you might have to take synthetic hormones (to mimmick the ones your body already makes) In order for you to get pregnant.
