  1. Lima is the best place to have a brief about the country. Check out the contrast of the ancient people that lived there (Huaca Huallamarca in San Isidro or Pucllana in Miraflores) and the modern city Lima is now.

Don´t miss museums, the only ones that are worth to pay a visit in Peru are Larco Museum and if you have time Museo arqueológio...

For me, the best experience was after visiting Lima centro (plaza de armas, catedral, etc). I went to Museo Larco in Pueblo Libre (www.museolarco.org) and had lunch in the restaurant at their gardens (stunning).

The food and the atmosphere were just great.

After lunch, I hired a local guide to show me the collection for about an hour  - the collection is just amazing!

Then I went back to my hotel to take a shower and then find a nice place to relax and have another incredible meal and a pisco sour at Miraflores...

  2. Yes I was just there in May.  We also went to Cusco, but I actually had more fun in Lima.  Food in Lima is excellent, especially around Mira Flores.  There is an outdoor mall right on the ocean in Mira Flores that has great food, shopping, and night clubs.  Also, check out the Plaza Kennedy, it is at the center of Mira Flores with good restaurants, and night life.  Also a movie theater if you want to catch a flick.

For nightlife, I preferred Baranco, which is about a 10 min drive from Mira Flores.  More bars, and dancing in Baranco.  All the locals in Lima were really friendly, I had absolutely no problems.  For me, the best experience was just meeting the women, they are incredible, extremely friendly and interesting to talk to, and so much fun to be around.  Second to that, I loved trying new restaurants.

I'm going back next chance I get.  If you go, I'd recommend buying a map of Lima ahead of time.  I had a few too many Pisco sours the first night I was there and found myself in the middle of Lima with no idea of where I was.
