Question:

Have you bred hingback tortoise?

I recently got a new female hingeback and put her in with the male I already had. With in hours they had already got down to it from what I could tell. Since then they have not really looked like they are getting it on again. Could this mean the female is already pregnant? What happens during the pregnancy - how long does it take to lay eggs? How long do the eggs need to hatch?

Any advise on what I should do if it does lay eggs would be a great help

  2. It usually takes quite a while for two tortoises to meet, court, and mate. I would bet what you saw was the male establishing dominance.

Hingebacks are generally considered a difficult species to keep. I know my experiences were not real successful and I now know that they needed a pretty specific, tropical high-humidity habitat to be happy or even try to breed.
