Has anyone built their own rabbit hutch? If so, did you use wire mesh flooring that allows f***s and urine to fall through into a tray? Where can I get this type of flooring. I've found the trays, but not the wire mesh. Thanks!

  1. Wire flooring causes sore hocks.

Rabbits are really indoor pets, why not litterbox train your bunny and let it live inside with the family?

x-pens make fairly cheap and large rabbit set ups for in the house, make sure you do your research before putting a rabbit outside in a hutch.

  2. Dont use wire mesh!! It will hurt the poor animals feet!!

Cant you just litter train it?

  3. If you are building a hutch I would suggest buying 1/2" by 1/2" wire on the bottom of the cage. It is small enough as to where the rabbit won't be as likely to get sore hocks, but big enough for the poops to fall through (unless you have a Flemish Giant of course. You can only guess what comes with that big of a rabbit LOL).

On the sides of the cage I would use 1" by 2" wire. If you use the smaller wire on the sides it will harder and more annoying to see through. Plus it is easier to hang water bottles on.

Another thing you might want to look into would be going to KW cages. Just type it into Google. they sell wire there, but they also sell pre made cage doors and  wire clips to attach the wire with. It will be under cage tools and it is called cage clip pliers, and cage clips. It makes the job a lot easier and they really don't cost that much. If you are only building one cage one bag of cage clips will be enough.

Lastly Sore hocks isn't as common on bunnies as some people might think. THe most common breed to get sore hocks would be any breed with rex hair. Out of all the rabbits I raise they are my only bunnies that have bad feet. Just keep the bunnies toenails clipped and you will be fine!
