  1. We haven't called any of our children after family members due to the fact they didn't have nice names(Colin, David, Sandra, and Susan. Albert and Derek) also if we had chosen one over the other it would be unfair.

  2. my daughters name is sophie demi watson.

sophie - we both liked it, no connection to family.

demi - my BF uncle passed away in october, when i found out i was pregnant. they were extremely close, and my BF went a bit off the rails for a few weeks not knowing how to deal with his grief. we didnt find out the gender and agreed if i had a boy, he would be named james - after the uncle - i had a little girl. my BF came up with the idea of demi as his uncles nickname was demy as his surname was james dempster.

  3. I got my name because it was my gran's second choice for my mother and she always wished she had opted for it instead. My middle name is also my godmother's name for the simple reason that she's my godmother. My brother is named after my grandfather and his middle name is the name of my (other) grandfather who died when my mother was still young.

I think of it this way; Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery =)

  4. i have a sister called charlotte because that was my dads grans name

i have a brother called thomas because that was my mum my mums grandads name.

and me called melissa after my grandads sister called melitta.

i have a brother called ben after benji out of good charlotte

    =]

    that okay?

  5. You need to ask again, I have no idea what you mean ...

  6. my middle name is Margaret after my auntie also another aunties middle name on other side of family.

I gave my daughter 2 middle names and 1 was Caroline after my sister.  She was dead chuffed. It sort of flowed nicely as well with what else i had chosen.

I knew one poor girl all the women on her mothers side where called Mary.  Even the ones who were not first named it had it as a middle name. She hated it so much. Called her own kids something different.

My grandad has the middle name Winter it was common to use the mothers maiden name as a middle name where he was brought up borders of Scotland.

I do not feel its fair on kids to be stuck with an really old fashioned names just for pleasing other family members.

  7. yes i am naming (actually my hubby is naming our daughter after his sister, she is still alive but they were so close before they left their family home that he promised her his first daughter will be called after her ...

  8. yes - my daughter - named after the lady who helped raise my fostered mum, and her second name is my mum's - as she died a few weeks befor she was born

  10. my little girls middle name is lauren named after my best friend who died aged 18!

  11. Do you mean "called" as in naming a child after a family member?

  12. I don't have children yet, but intend to in the near future. I would call a girl Karie, because my aunt was called Karie. She died age 21. My partner had a cousin who died, also called Karie. It's such a beautiful name. I would name a boy Daniel or George. I have always liked the name Daniel and my Dads name is George, as was my grandpas.

  13. Well, my son has a similar name to his daddy, but we didn't want to have the same. He has the same middle name, which is actually my husbands grandfathers name. It has been a tradition in his side of the family to give the first born son that name. I hope that if my son has a son he will continue this.

  14. .

  15. Well personally no but I think that naming child with the exact same name as the parent is just plain lazy and vain-glorious!!!

Giving them names of grandparents or other relatives is quite acceptable.  My middle name is my father's youngest sisters name.
