Have you closed your open two story foyer?

My husband & I are buying a house with an open two story foyer and I am wondering if it is possible to close the upstairs portion of the open foyer? We would like to make it into another small bedroom or walk in closet, etc. We have seen this option with other homes when choosing to build but we arent sure if thats something you need to have done while its being built or if its something we can do now, since the house is 4 yrs old. If anyone has done this in their home please let me know how difficult it was and how expensive it ran. Also, who did you contact to do the work? An architect or general home improvements contractor? Thanks!

With the advances they've made, you can do anything to a house regardless of it's age, as long as the structure will support it.

I would definately check with an engineer to make sure the structure is okay to do it, then move forward and hire a reputable contracting group who specializes in add-ons.
