I take it for bipolar 1 disorder.

I am going to go socially drinking tomorrow and probably getting drunk.

It says not to drink alcohol, but I wonder if it is really a big deal.

if you have gotten drunk while taking lamictal, describe your experience pleaaase.

  1. My doc told me it's OK to drink as long as I don't get a buzz. I take my 300 of Lamictal in the AM, though. I stop drinking an hour for every drink prior to taking my PM medications (I normally take them at 9, so if I have 2 drinks, I don't take them until 11).

Both Lamictal and alcohol are metabolized in the liver. Liver failure isn't a pretty sight and can kill.

It's better to be safe than sorry.

Drinking and getting drunk will make bipolar symptoms WAAAY worse, as it decreases inhibitions, which we ALREADY have problems with.

Do yourself a favor and avoid the hospital and the possibility of jail.

  2. I have had several drinks while taking this med and haven't had any ill side effects at all...

I wouldn't go out on a bender though.

    Take care.

  3. Different people have different reactions to drugs, especially to combinations of drugs (alcohol being a drug).

Ever thought of trying to be a responsible member of society?  Even a bipolar mind is a terrible thing to waste.

  4. Well I took wellbutrin for a while, and it said not to drink, and I drank anyway.  It made me really emotional, but then again I don't think I needed the wellbutrin which probably explains all the side-effects.  I'm not familiar with lamictal, but my guess is if you act really stupid or emo, just say you drank too much.  It can't have that bad of side effects.
