  1. depends on the mistake, but in general, it's better to face things head on. but not rushed, you have to think things through before you confront the issue.

you could run away too, but it's your mistake, and it's your responsibility.

  2. make the best of it...?

apologize to whoever you hurt, forgive yourself first, then let it go.

  3. yes, i just asked sorry and get on with my life

  4. Yes.  It happened to me once and being caught  was not only embarrassing but nerve-wracking as well.  I couldn't face my employer.  I wanted to hide or hoped the earth would swallow me up then I didn't have to face him another day.

My officemate and I were discussing about men and she asked me who my type was.  We sort of compared our ideal man. Then, out of the blue I blurted out:  I can never fall for a bald man!"  Just then my boss came out of his office and heard me.  He was a good-looking fellow but terribly bald.

My officemate kicked me in the foot and started to giggle.  I looked up and saw my boss stopped in his tracks.  In a while, he looked at me and smiled (the kind of smile that said he understood) and went back to his office.  I was really all flipped out.  The rest of the day I stayed silent and kept out of my boss's way.

Add:  For me it was a mistake to have spoken my thoughts out loud because one can't be too careful about saying things which might be overheard or hurt someone.
