Have you ever been in Rome, and did you do as the Romans do?

I went to Rome for several days, part of a pilgrimage for the beatification of the founder of Opus Dei, Father Jose Maria Escriva.  I went to St. Peter's everyday.  Also, I had a compatriot accompany me to the sites--- like the Spanish Steps, bought a lot of rosaries and statues for gift for my mom.  I also ate gelato---the Italian ice cream..  I don't like their pizza.  I didn't do as the Romans do---like drive their fashionable cars that were oh so dusty.  But I guess I did what they do normally----drink water from the public faucets which can be found everywhere in Rome.  water spouting for free....and clean, potable water.

yup.....drove around on a scooter like a maniac and ate lots of pasta, also walked around with my sunglasses on my head!

Yes, I was in Rome and I ate spaghetti (which I guess the Romans do also), visited the Vatican City and went onto the roof of St. Peters and took a picture of the pope's TV antenna (which I guess most Romans do NOT do).  PS:  I didn't like the spaghetti, I prefer the version I get in New York.

Been to Rome once a year for 6 years now. I love it!

Well, I didn't wear a toga, and I didn't watch gladiators and animals rip eachother to pieces!

But I certainly ate at places that appeared to be full of Italians, not tourists, walked or took the bus everywhere (not taxis), learnt some Italian before I went and had a fantastic time!

It's a fantastic city, and the people are lovely.

Yes and No. I was there less than a week,so I didn't start to cross the streets by walking out into the traffic as I saw locals do. I did partake of the local cuisine and travel by crowded Roman buses as their Metro was still being dug.
