i have never been there but my guess would be like every other country, beautiful except in the real poor areas.

I've never been to South Africa.  I'm from Midwest America, and I've been to Scotland and Japan.  All I know about what South Africa looks like is from the few movies I"ve seen [Cry Freedom, Dry White Season, Sarafina], it seems there are lovely gentrified neighborhoods, where all the wealthy white people live, and corrugated tin shacks where the impoverished black people live.  That may be a stereoptype, but that is my initial impression.

Yes , I've been there when I served as officer on board Union Castle/Safmarine  vessels.  

The Garden Route  from Capetown / P. Elizabeth is simply beautiful.  I knew the Mount Nelson and the vineyards  back of Table mountan  .. the beautiful exotic flora is stunning.. and the WINDY Cape ..  And yes I've been to the Valley of a Thousand Hills...You have a stupendiously  beautiful  country
