(Amtrak is America's national rail network. Amtrak operates 100s of trains every day in almost every state in the United States. There are more Amtrak stations than there are airports in America. Amtrak is subsidized by the federal government.)

  1. I used to ride Amtrak every summer from NYC to Alabama to visit my aunt. I haven't been on the Metroliner or Acela trains yet. Now that I'm in Baltimore, I plan on taking the train up to NY instead of the 4 hour drive.

  2. yes, oh my god, nine hours from chicago to kansas city.

    i almost died.

  3. No I'm English, We use our rail network!

  4. Yes, I took the Amtrak "Coast Starlight" from Oakland, CA to Seattle, WA.  It was a 22 hour ride and very very nice and the movement of the train was very relaxing.  You could move from car to car and if you wanted to party, there was a car with people wanting to party, and if you wanted to sleep, you could find a quiet car where people were sleeping.  There was a restaurant car with very good food.  I think there was a bar car, but I didn't go to that one.  A very enjoyable experience.

  5. yeah, unlike the smart guy above, I see your point. Big expensive network, yet everyone I know flies or drives. Maybe they transport a lot of goods. Or snakes.

  6. Yes.  So that was your question?

  7. Yea. The atmosphere beats flying, driving, and bus all put together. If you dont mind delays, that is. We got behind about 5 hours going a distance that should have taken two.

    That help?

  8. Yes my son and a friend and I rode Amtrak from Memphis to Provo, Utah to visit friends and back a few years ago.  It was fun.

  9. Yes I have, and I really enjoyed it. I get carsick very easily, but on the train I did not. The people on the train are very nice, it was a very good atmosphere. I was on the train over 30 hours traveling one way, but it was so worth it. I got to see so many more things than I could have by driving. If you are wanting a scenic route, try taking the train that runs from Denver, to Salt Lake City. It was amazing. But one thing was that the food was pretty expensive, but worth it!!!!

  10. Yes

  11. I only rode on Amtrak once from St. Louis to Chicago. It took forever. You are always making stops or waiting for other trains to pass. It is cheaper than flying and quicker than taking Greyhound Buses. If you not in a hurry I would recommend it. Below is their web site for reservations and scheduling.

  12. Yes, I have been on amtrak.  (Yes, 2 points)

  13. Yes, My wife and I took Amtrak around the USA and it took 2 weeks, we went from Atlanta Ga to San Francisco. We went from Atlanta Ga too New Orleans from their we went too Palm Springs too Bakersfield too Stockton too San Francisco where we stayed for a week and then we took the train too Chicago and on too Washington DC and back too Atlanta Ga, we had a great time and we had a sleeper all the way. My wife and I will go on it again sometime.

  14. What "alternachick" said.  The couple of times I have checked their web site, to go from Detroit to Denver, it requires an overnight stay ! I would rather pay a little more and fly, spend a few hours flying than getting there in the same time it takes to drive.
