  1. In the Summer of 1965, while coming home from Jones Beach, in NY, I crossed a solid double line and was stopped.  Not only was I cited for crossing the line, but I also received a twenty-five dollar fine and a point for operating my vehicle while barefoot.  That should answer your question.  Good luck!

  2. I can't recall seeing a police officer drive barefoot.  HaHaHa...Yes, .....more than once and I got a ticket for it too. I think it's one of those situations where it depends on the cop. Get mouthy.... get a ticket......be nice or be a hot looking member of the opposite s*x and get only a warning and told to put your shoes on (if you have them with you.) and everything else that is missing

  3. No, I have always had shoes on.  But I do like to drive barefoot.

  4. Yes.  He didn't really comment on it.  I was leaving a lake that sits on federal land.  He told me that my boat trailer needed to be tagged.  Let me off with a warning.  I don't really think he cared much about passing out tickets.  He had driven by our camp site a couple of days earlier.  We had a bong sitting on the table.  He waved at us, and kept driving.

  5. yes and they didn't seem to mind I was barefoot.

  6. No, but I still know it's not illegal, so he shouldn't be pulling you over for that! In spite of persistent myths, there are NO laws against driving barefoot. Unfortunately, this myth is so common that even some cops believe it... but everyone who believes this please see source and stop spreading this falsity.

(Kiffin #1: not doubting your story, but either you ran into one of those cops who doesn't know better, or the laws have since changed; I was only born in '68 so I sure don't claim to know anything about the laws back then. I wasn't even 'driving' a tricycle yet! However I *do* know the law now, so if you ever want to drive barefoot again keep the links in the source handy. Happy travels :))

Some cops are convinced it's unsafe and even though they know it's not illegal may try to write you up for unsafe or reckless driving, however please see the second and third link in the source, for two sites (one from the Michigan PD, one from an Australian newspaper) making it clear that driving barefoot is no more unsafe than many types of footwear that are regularly worn and could even be considered safer than many kinds of shoes.

  7. it is wrong to say that it is legal to drive barefoot, especially in regards to a site like this, with people from all over the world!  While most places may allow it, that does not mean that there are no places where it may be against the law. If an officer wanted to stretch it, I am sure he could find a way to write it. Unsafe operation of a motor vehicle comes to mind. Not saying that it would fly in court, but no reason it could not be written.

Many times I have driven barefoot, especially on long trips! :)
