  1. Yes but only when going up or down...

  2. No, but my best friend was for several hours. At some point he tried to be a hero and opened the door at the top of the car to see if they could climb out, he was the only man in the car with several women. He looked up and saw all these cables and pullies and said "Um, it's not safe to climb up there, we'll wait." My friend is a wise man, a few hours later the building engineers got the elevator running again.

In a story from the local news, an elevator stopped between two floors and the door opened. The man clambered out, and then leaned back into the elevator and urged his two women co-workers to climb out as well. They wisely refused, moments later the elevator proceeded downwards. What happened to him need not be described, needless to say it was an unpleasant experience for the two women as well, but at least they are around to talk about it.

The moral of course is if you are in an elevator that malfunctions...just wait until you are rescued. Interesting question, I've blogged about elevator accidents:

  3. Don't want to know what horrible it is. I was into one with seven more people,  we were three adults and four children. The children were too scare, of course. It is a big desperation, you  feel that the air scape.  you feel so hot. You push the alarm, but anything you do or try to do is not enough. We shouting and we hear many people  in from  of the elevator calling the fire department and trying to do something to open the door  but nothing worked. In that moment you feel that  you gonna die.Let me tell you, fire department is located  in a half block, but the firemen came 18 minutes later and  they took 6 minutes to open it. When firemen opened the elevator it was in the middle of two floor. Can you imagine. I don't like to remember that, but I hope not anybody hapen for the same horrible thing.

  4. Yes, once when I was single. There were four people in the elevator and, thank God, none of us got hysterical.  We just sat down and told jokes until some 30 minutes later.  BTW, we didn't know each other until then and since that happened we became friends.

  5. It was really a non-event.  I used to work in a building with elevators that frequently malfunctioned and one day a couple of us got caught.  The elevator wouldn't move and the doors refused to open.  We sounded the alarm and had to wait for several minutes until the maintenance crew arrived.  They forced open the doors and helped us out.  I did take the stairs for the rest of the day, though.

  6. No but I was once stuck on an escalator for two terrifying hours. Thank God the professionals at Mall Security were eventually able to walk me down.

  7. For twenty minutes with an old lady who was very upset. I managed to use the phone to call for help. They responded immediately and told me to be patient. We heard them working

on the door.We were between floors but they eventually wound us down and took us both out. It was a hotel and they treated us well with refreshments after the "ordeal".

The manager told us it was unusual they took so long to free us but there seemed to have been a major failure of the equipment.
