I was there from my birth (autumn of 1971) to late 1972, then from 1975 to 1979, the summers of 1982, 1985, 1987, and 1989, then from 1997 to 2001 (living there again, I mean), and most recently for three weeks in November of 2002. "What's it like" is a bit too vague for me. ;-)

My first visit to France was some 35 years ago and I was most recently there in October of 2007. I've been there several dozen times in those years.  

Its not particularly different than it was in 2005 (when I was also there) except for the opening of the Musee du Quai Branly.
