Have you ever told someone a lie, or lied about something for so long that it actually becomes real to yourself? And... how is it that we can convince ourselves that our own lie is real? Surely its not 100% possible???

Just wondering ! xxxx

Anyone have any stories of them doing this?

  1. no I dont lie...im honest.. try it

  2. Yeah i have =P x

  3. no --- but i have a friend who has for a while --- needs help

  4. Any lie can become believable enough if you tell it enough, or you believe it enough yourself.

But even in our heads we still know we are lying, but the feeling is suppressed. Liars have to suppress the truth, that's the whole point.

  5. I haven't.

  6. There is a lot of slack in word definitions, job or other kinds of titles, and concepts in general. Some exploit the fussy edges of this, and others endure it. I suggest also that the kind of outright lies, commonly found on job applications, and in seduction routines, are different than pure ego-shots of a completely false nature, which the question infers are the only kind of falsehood. Within this specific type of fib, surely everyone has been tempted, and in considering what might happen soon if one did, they lived the experience internally. Some have been observed in their attempt to make another person do this by manipulation, and entertaining fictional works have used this as a "hook". Finally, there is the instance wherein a marginal or imagined claim has been so pursued that it actually did become real. Always more details! Regards, Larry.

  7. Yes.. I was in a difficult situation, and someone was in danger (well, they weren't, I was tricked into believing they were), and the only way I could think to solve it was to threaten to kill myself if this person did anything to them. Now, I couldn't kill myself..well, I'm not sure now, but at the time, no.. though after a day or so of saying this, despite the situation being resolved in a different way, I'd managed to make myself believe I should off myself.. luckily, I didn't try, the person involved talked me out of it. Ugh..never lie.

It's definitely possible to delude yourself about something. I do it a lot. I think it's not all that bad though...
