Question:

Have you ever bought pirated DVDs or Cd's?

We borrowed a DVD last night from a friend, from the moment we saw the cover, we knew it was pirated but viewed it either way. I was beyond shocked to hear people laugh in the background (this was Rush hour 3)... But I must admit, I enjoyed the funky "random" subtitles more than I did the movie and was still left in awe after seeing a few heads in silouette move across the screen....

Does anyone know who does the missmatched and sometimes crazy subtitles? Do people pirate from here or are they pirated over seas and brought into the country illegaly? How does it work?

  1. No , i dont buy them , i sell them as RR said , i go to the movies (got a contact , go in for free) record it on my phone, and then i go home , make copies and sell them....

Like everything else, they all come from China or from somewhere up there , Last year i remember they found a container in durban (came from china) with loads of fake dvd's so im sure its pirated there and brought here and sold....

  2. Ja - I've checked the s****. and ZXCV cousins selling those pirated DVD's there at Lugs.

No, I don't support criminals - so I don't buy pirated goods - even my copy of "Pirates of the caribean" is original.

I do however copy my cd's and play the copies in my car - as one of the joys of living in our wonderful country is that your car gets constantly broken into and then at least it's the copies that get stolen and not the originals.

  3. No I have never it is against my integrity or ethics....boring I know but I will never buy anything pirated intentionally. I believe it is the same as stealing, it actually is stealing. I will be very cross if after years and years of struggeling as an aspirant singer (not me, I cannot sing to save my life) I bring out a hit and some crook goes and pirate thousands of copies of my song....

  4. I always get them from some friend, but when and if I do buy, I buy the original (which hardly ever happens). Its mostly done overseas as far as I know and people download it from "special" websites. They also hold OC's (organisation chaos) where guys connect to a shared server and exchange movies and stuff. Normally on a Friday night. Quite fun!

Hope I never gave away some secret code. . .

  5. I only buy top quality pirate dvd's

However, my collection of PS games are original

  6. NO! NO!

I will not buy  Cd's or DVD'd that are pirated as I  believe is not honest.

If I cannot afford it I stay without it.

  7. all of my DVDs are pirated but i only buy high quality DVD....some dvd subtitles are good, no problem w/ that......

but some aren't good......it depends.....for high quality, you might think it's original.....

  8. That type of dubbing is called a "Keniscope"... it's the way during the early years of TV that a live program could be recorded on film.

What you are seeing is a dub where someone idiot aimed a camera and a microphone at the TV set and hit "record".. because they are too stupid to know how to do an electronics to electronics dub

  9. I bought the Star Wars Episode 3 DVD a few years back as I missed it at the cinema and really wanted to watch it before it came out on DVD, the sound and picture quality was terrible, I'll never buy one ever again.

I guess I'm also just a common criminal at heart.
