Have you ever broken your driver shaft?

Have you ever broken your driver shaft? I have a Cobra L4V-M driver and snapped it right off the hosel. I have no idea why, didn't hit it exceptionally heavy, it just broke and the head flew about 60 yards.

I've had it for 3 months. Does it cost alot to replace with original shaft? Does Cobra cover such incidents?

  1. You know what. Small world out there I guess. I broke the same exact club. And like you, all I did was hit the ball and it just flew off. But to answer your question, I think my friend said you could get it re-shafted for about 30 bucks. But good luck...

  2. This happened to my son-in-law 3 times last year. Turns out that he was hitting the ball off the heel, which means that the ball was hitting at or near the hosel, causing the shaft to break. He's stepped back from the ball a bit and no more broken shafts.

  3. It might be a blessing in disguise, most stock shafts are so "vanilla" that you might do much better to get fitted properly for a new one. There's no reason you can't get fitted, buy the shaft, and have it installed for around $100.

  4. Cobra will probably cover repairing it for you by replacing the shaft.  Take it back to wherever you bought it and they should ship it back to the factory for repair.  You could also replace it with a different shaft, but that would be at your expense and shafts go anywhere from about $50 to $300 depending on what you pick, plus a little for the shop to install it.

  5. I broke a Callaway System 50 shaft the same way... caught a driving range ball dead center, and the head took off downrange. If you bought it new, Cobra should cover it with a manufacturer's warranty. Usually, the rule of thumb is if the shaft broke no more than 1-2 inches above the hosel, then it was broken during normal play, and they won't ask too many questions.

  6. Cobra drivers are warranted for 2 years.  The most breaks  in the shaft is at the hosel.  Take it to your pro shop and they will send it back to cobra to be reshafted.  Note, this will be a free repair.

  7. Had the same thing happen to me...turns out the shaft was too flexible for my swing speed...Don't know if Cobra covers that, but I would suggest you go to their website and ask (or find a number for customer/tech service...Another option is calling local golfsmiths and getting quotes for replacing the shaft...Their prices will vary, and sometimes you can find very reasonable rates for quality replacements, not to mention solid advice on the flex you should be using...good luck...My best friend has a cobra also, and he swears it is the best driver he has ever used

  8. If thats what happened they will replace the shaft. If you slammed the ground they wont.  It does happen though.

  9. you are covered it does happen all good companies warrenty . shaft manafactures also warrenty . had seel break downswing blew rotar cuff .

  10. This gives you an excuse to buy a good, pro shaft for your driver. Aldila and Fujikura are what most pros use in their drivers. I have the Fujikura Speeder shaft and it is light weight with alot of pop. Go to a retailer and have them measure your swing speed. Stiff flex is best for 95 to 105 mph and regular is good for around 80 to 90.

They will test you for free and the shaft will cost somewhere around 50 to 70 bucks plus $5 for a new grip. And it shouldnt break like that piece of c**p stock shaft.

There is a chance that you could get it replaced for free but it would probably take forever to get it back and you would still have a crappy shaft.
