Have you ever dealt with an especially rude waiter/waitress, cashier, or just any worker in service in general (mechanic, fast food chain clerk, manager, host/waitress, movie theatre)? If so, what would you say was your worst case of rude, nasty customer service and did you do anything about it (tell them off, tell the manager)?

  1. I went to one of those dry cleaners that costs $2.25 no matter what you bring in and they give it back to you one day later. Well, the reason it is so cheap is apparently customer service is expensive for the business, and they just cut that out. When I gave the woman the clothes, she said, "Did you try to wash this?" I said no, it's dry-clean only. She said, "Well, you know we can't get this clean, right?" (Most dry-cleaners say they will do their best but they can't promise removal of all stains.)

When I came back, there were four people working at the counter. One woman was talking loudly about another customer who had gotten on her nerves (I could hear every detail of the story and it sounded like the customer just had reasonable requests that she didn't want to deal with.) I was the only customer in the store, but they all ignored me for a minute or two. Then they got into an argument about who would have to wait on me, and the loser was very sullen and grouchy that she had to come over and do her job. She came over and held out her hand for my ticket, stomped off to find my clothes, then handed them to me and walked away without ever saying a word to me.

Incidentally, they got the pants spotless, despite saying that they couldn't. Next time I will just pay more and go to a cleaners where not everybody is a jackass.

  2. First keep in mind they may be having a horrible day, an awful patron before you, fight at home, family illness......

no does not excuse their behaviour but approach it with a caring nature when you do say something.

  3. I have worked 35 years dealing with people and some people just are rude or they look down on you I also deal day to day with people from all walks of life I always say  "I prayed today it helped me,but it did not do a thing for you Remember this: you do not know what is going on that person's life.............

  4. I tell you , I have the worst luck on restaurants , I used to be a waitress a very good one too , I have common sense and I'm fast , and my memory is great so I was a great waitress , I used to make lots of Money and the clients love me ! , then I had baby's and I choose to work 8 till 5 job Mon till Friday to be with my kids , but any how ! for that reason I have the worst luck with restaurants my friends always make fun of the situation when we go out because is too funny , one time I was in Cheddar's and I oder my steak Medium , it was as hard as a rock, I called the waitress very nice , I was so nice to her because i knew she did not cook the steak , she grab it from my plate with her hands and walk away , I was in shock ..are you kidding me ? my friends were smiling at me because those types of situations always happens to me ..any way , i went to my car to get my phone and I saw the waitress smoking outside almost crying ....she was having a badddddddd day and because of that she was already doing thing wrong ! you know what I did ? I left her a great Tip with a very positive note , sometimes you don't know why the other person is been rude , maybe they are in a very difficult moment and your words are the key to fix the problem or make it worse ....just be nice, be kind...remember God is watching you and your actions.

  5. I don't deal with them at all; I save that for the manager. I either write a letter or make a phone call, one or the other. I cannot deal with them because I don't want to lose my temper in public but I do handle it very well when I'm home.

  6. I've had MANY instances of horrible customer service!!  Most of the time I overlook it and chalk it up to them having a bad day.  I work customer service myself so I know how rude people can put you in a bad mood.  I'm extremely good at turning bad situations around though so I've learned how to deal with rude and upset people so they never leave unhappy!  Oh and Gods Child, just from your answer I would bet that it's YOU who is the problem at that place of business and not the people who work there.  Maybe you shouldn't be so judgmental.

  7. yes many of times.  The best thing to do is forgive them, and go about your business.  I think the worst wave of bad service was at the Discount Auto Store in Yulee.  I quit shopping there because of how bad it is.  The black guy thinks I am stealing, the women is always smart with me.  And they hate it when I try to bring back something that belongs to them, they I should not have ended up with.  The pagan hates Christians, so he is against my religion, it just goes on and on.  Then there is the military man, who calls me stupid.

  8. I was on the other side of the fence, providing customer service at a catalog house.  People were SO rude to me, some even went so far as to use the F-bomb at me.  One guy told me that he'd never order from us again because "I" f-ed up his order.  I took this, patiently, day after day.  Customers are FAR more rude than service workers, believe me.

  9. The most rudest thing I've ever experienced with customer service is when a few cashiers sometimes slam the change right into your palms and sometimes, some of those coins bounce off and ricochet somewhere along the ground if they didn't bother to see where your hand was waiting to receive the change.

I, honestly thought that was rude and that they should take more time into studying where your hand is waiting to receive the change and then place it there for a second or two to ensure that you've got a decent service.

    Hope that helps

  10. I had gone through the drive-thru of a local Dunkin Donuts to pick up a quick coffee before heading off to work. The three cars in front of me had all ordered more than one breakfast sandwich (the car in front of me ordered 4) which created a very long line of cars to form behind me.

What was supposed to be a 2 minute pit stop ended up being a 15 minute wait that lead to me being almost half an hour late to work. To top it all off, my coffee was not up to par.

I don't know what the policy is for Dunkin Donuts' drive-thru's but I don't believe in ordering sandwiches through them -- it's unfair to those who need to get something quick and go!

Furious with being late and not getting what I had ordered, I sent a lengthy email to Dunkin Donuts via their complaint section of their website. Within 2 weeks, I received a gift card in the mail and they called that particular branch and straightened things out.

  11. I had a cashier in a grocery store try to tell me that I was buying the wrong kind of milk.  They had milk on sale that had added calcium in it and my husband has trouble with too much calcium, but that was none of her business.  I told her that too much calcium isn't good for people and she started in about my getting osteoporosis if I didn't get enough calcium.  I just quit talking to her.  I quit going to that store.  Afterwards, of course, I thought of all the things I could have said to her, like "If you're a doctor, why are you working here?"

  12. Worst case was waiting in the only open line at KMart to pay for a cartful of purchases.  Only cashier there, for gosh sakes.  It had been a long line, and I think I probably waited about 20 minutes or so. There were about 3 other people behind me, as well.

After she waited on the person in front of me, she asked that customer to fasten the chain behind them, indicating that she was closed.  I said I am here, waiting for service.  I have been here a long time waiting for service.  I want to be checked thru.  She replied that it was her break time, and she was now officially closed. She said that in a no nonsense tone.  Not even apologetic that I wasn't going to be taken care of.  She turned the key in her register, and left.

I found the manager and told him that I wanted that girl to come right back here and wait on me.  He said I should wait about 5 more minutes, and another cashier would be here to help me.  He had called a person in on their day off because he was short handed.

I said no, I can not wait.  I had waited long enough.  He then told me to take my purse out of my cart, leave it right there, and go to WalMart to buy my items.

I said no, I had already run out of time.  I wanted to be waited on now. The girl could come right back here, and wait till the other cashier got here and was set up before taking her break, so that I and the people behind me could get waited on.

He called her back.  But he also said that I was an unreasonable and unpleasant person, and they did not need my business. I did not have any compassion for the poor girl who was working so hard.

(Yeah, well, if he had compassion, he could have opened a line and checked us thru, couldn't he?)

I sent a complaint in to the district office against that manager who had not made sure there were enough employees to wait on the customers, and who had treated me rudely.  And, I did not shop at KMart after that, until they got a new manager.

  13. Ugh I'm so sick of the "they're having a bad day" excuse.  I'm a cashier and my customers don't know if I'm having a bad day or not because I don't treat them like c**p just because something is wrong at home or something.  Of course we've all experienced bad customer service and I'll admit I've given bad service although most of the time I'm pretty dang good at my job.  I don't mean I sit there and yell at or ignore the customers or am blatently rude to them but I've accidentally rung things up incorrectly and they had to wait while I had a manager fix it, I've dropped their money more than once but I appoligize and I pick it up for them.  I've gotten distracted and forgotten to bag something until they remind me or bagged it but forgot to give it to them.  It happens.  Occasionally I've gone to count back their change for them and realized I just can't remember what comes after 2 or some other ridiculous thing like that.  I'm not nasty though even when I hate the customer and there are customers I truely hate although most of them I genuinly like.  Some of my co-workers are nasty to customers though.  They won't ring some of them because they don't like them, I've seen them lecture customers about their behavior, and my manager called a customer a moron to his face the other day.  I'd say that probably falls under bad service.  Just so you know I've never seen a custormer complain to management in my store and have the manager care at all.  No one has ever been reprimanded (to my knowledge in my store) for treating the customers badly.

I recently dealt with being treated badly in a clothing store.  I was lied to about whether an item was going on sale so I ended up buying it for full price and discovering the next day that it was half off.  while I was there on the second day I asked if they would adjust the price for me and they told me they would if I brought the item back in and when I brought the item in making a third trip the same lady who told me to bring it in told me they didn't do price adjustments.  So I just returned it and called their district office to report them.  It was all just so ridiculous and time consuming and pointless.  I don't know if anything will come from my call but eventually bad service will catch up with the store when they lose all thier customers.
