  1. This applies to the Illinois tolls, but I am sure it would be similar for other states. Basically you would just get an envelope from the person working the booth and mail in the payment. If no one is there, I would imagine you would have to call the DOT. But it is helpful to know which area you passed the toll without paying. If you knew ahead of time you didn't have the money, you would just drive through the "EZ Pass" lane for regular users. But again, if you didn't mail in payment, they would mail you a ticket.

  2. twice in New York state, but they still let me by both times!

  3. I HAVE I JUST TOLD THE PERSON ON THE BOOTH THAT I HAVE NO MONEY THEY LET ME GO OR SOMETIMES THEY WILL JUST BILL YOU

  4. I used to work at a toll booth in Florida. The procedure we used was: taking down their DL # and vehicle tag # and gave them an envelope with the address to mail in the payment. If one wasn't received by a certain date they would get a ticket or fine. Only had to do it a few times. Most people were embarrassed, but hey, stuff happens to us all. Now if someone decided to just drive through, the cameras will capture their tag # and mail them a ticket. We would also call police with a description of the vehicle since there were often cops or highway patrol in the area. I would not envy those people, especially for a few cents or a dollar.

  5. Yes, all the dang old time (well not habitually) on Georgia400.

Anyway, I pull up to the toll booth with a person in it and I tell them I have no money. They tell me to pull up a bit so they may take down my license plate number.

Then they give a bill for $1 (the toll is 50cent), lift the metal arm and I drive off to my destination!

If you do not have a human at your toll and had no money whatsoever, I would imagine you would go through the lane for those who have a toll pass.  Then, you would receive a ticket in the mail...

  6. In the UK, some toll roads and bridges are free for motorcycles, so no problem, stop at the sign and they raise the barrier.

One advantage of travelling on two wheels.
