yes.  Right up there with child abuse because they are just as vulnerable.

When an older person is with someone, say, 20 years younger and if the older person initiates a conversation, say, with a store clerk I have observed that the clerk will reply and continue the conversation with the younger person.

It is difficult to acknowledge being or becoming older.
