OH YESSSSS!.... some of my tutors were generous when given an explanation .... some penalised me by marking my work, then downgrading it as a penalty for it being in late!.... To be honest though, Uni (in the greater picture) is such a short time to waste such an opportunity.... get your head down and get on with it!...

Yes. Sometimes it's okay to not hand in one or two assignments if they are a low percentage of your grade (i.e. one daily assignment in Calculus class). Other times it was a fatal move - like not turning in the term research paper worth 40% of the grade.

Basically, determine how much the assignment is worth and weigh that against why you don't want to do it.
