  1. I have a 2 year old and I turn on an ionizer on high -loudest setting. I make her room dark too and make her cozy in a blanket and it works.

    A fan is the just about the  same sound as an ionizer.


  2. This always happens in my house.

    Me and my brother have this problem.

    Usually it just because you tired but you haven't used up your energy.

    Do some exercise and/or play some games that get your adrenaline going. Do this during the day though because anything stimulating like that usually makes you restless.

    I saw somebody mention a fan in their post.

    This is actually a really good one. It works for some but not for others.

    It creates the white nose but it also drowns out any other distracting noises. I also like the fact that if your wrapped up in your blanket at the same time you are still cooled down so it creates a nice temperature for you.

    You can be so tired that you can't keep your eyes open so you get up and go to bed but when you lie there for a few minutes you can't get to sleep. I don't know why it is exactly but it could be either one of these. Your bedroom might not be sleep savvy.

    Your brain needs to know that when you go into your bedroom it's time to sleep. It really does get trained like that. You do this by doing nnothing but sleeping in your bedroom (you can have s*x and change though lol).

    Another could be that since you were falling asleep but you broke it, your body could be taking this as a sign that you can't or don't want to sleep and it will start to kick the adrenaline into your body so that you still function since you may need to, but your body doesn't know that all you need to do is go to sleep.

    Well thats all i know.

    I'm sure there are plenty of other things that people will suggest for you to get to sleep so i didnt bother with all of those tiny things.

  3. Your not tired enough..and actually I do the worst thing you can do supposedly and that's to lay down when your not tired..eventually I do pass out.

    I think certain stresses affect every one in different patterns/ways. Alas different things work for different people. Maybe you have more energy than you realize and need to do something. Take your dog for a walk. Volunteer. Do some gardening. Do something so that by the end of the day you conk out. Not saying it will be that easy. I feel tired all the time but it's because of stress and depression. Had I not either I would have more energy from the amount of sleep I get which is plenty. (8 if not sometimes more!). Your body should clue you in if not you may have more problems than you may ever realize.

    From what I've seen with the technology we have it is nearly impossible to dissect the exact cause for every one because we are as different as the grains of sand on a beach.

  4. yes! that has happened to me! what i do is i get out of bed and stay up a bit longer. i find that if i try to go to sleep i get frustrated that i can't. reading also helps, and listening to music.

  5. I have had similar experiences. When you say really tired, it may mean that you are overtired. In other words, maybe you had a busy or stressful day. You may have pushed yourself  too much that day and really should have gone to bed EARLIER to unwind from the stress. It's a little bit hard to explain. If you stay up too late or you had a very taxing day, it builds up stress in your body and mind. Then when you lie down, you still feel all that physical and emotional stress, which can make it very hard to fall asleep. Depending on the season, a warm bath with lavender oil or whatever oil works best for you, is a great way to relax both your body and your mind.

    There are herbs that are helpful for sleep, eg, valerian root, kava kava, chamomile, hops, passion flower, catnip. If you get the real herbs, you can make teas out of them. In capsule form, they are available in most health food or vitamin stores. You can try a single herb or combinations of herbs. Probably, valerian root and kava kava are the best. There are homeopathic remedies, eg, coffee cruda & others, that might work.

    Many people wrote to you about fans. You can try this with a timer that will shut off the fan in an hour or so. Rather than a fan, I prefer relaxation CDs, especially those that contain someone speaking with relaxing music in the background.

    As others suggested, you can relax your body one part at a time, from the head down or the toes up, whichever seems to work best for you.

    A similar technique is to just let your mind move from one part of your body to another. Just do this spontaneously, seeing where your mind goes next. Of course, guided relaxation methods can help, imagining yourself in the country, the beach, or whatever is most soothing to you.

    You can also try very tiny rocking movements. Let's say you are lying on your right side, then move the upper or lower part of your right arm or even just a finger or two. Make the movement slow and so tiny that no one could see the movement even if they were less than a foot away. This method may sound weird, but what do you expect from Yahoo! Answers :-) More important, this method works!

    If none of this c**p works, get a gun and go to a local drug store. Say to the cashier, "This is a stick up. Give me all the sleeping pills you got."

  6. Yes, many times. Right now, I am having this problem but it is due to a death in my family so none of my old methods are working for me at this time. However, before this happened there were several things that seemed to work for me.

    1. A fan to make white noise. Can't sleep without one.

    2. Read until I get drowsy.

    3. Lay in bed and plan something, in detail. Like plan how I would design a house to be almost completely off the grid with passive solar, etc. Or plan the perfect city. Whatever you plan can't be too exciting or it will have the opposite effect and keep you awake.

    4. Imagine I am in a moving car, but I am not driving. Someone else is. I am safe and warm, cuddled into a blanket on the big plush back seat and imagine the noise of the engine, the smooth sound of the tires over pavement, etc.

    5. Do relaxation exercises by starting at my toes and working my way up my body, imagining each part of my body getting warm and heavy. Usually I can't make it all the way to my head before I fall asleep.
