  1. i always give to cancer research, douglas macmillan etc, because my mother in law sadly died of this horrible illness, and my mum has beaten breast cancer,my grandads beaten lung cancer and my nan has beaten carvical cancer, before all this i was ignorant and never donated, but when it happens to someone you know, then it makes you realise how important these charities are, for me it is something i feel strongly about, cancer is a dreadful disease that can happen to anyone, all charities need  donations, but this is the main one i give to,also air ambulance and NSPCC,

  2. yes i have, it is up to you who you want to give to,i tend to buy badges and the pins you can put on your coat and raffle tickets etc,my daughter has a direct debit for the air ambulance which is another good cause.

  3. I give to a few charities. I decided to sponsor an African child, so I researched three of the biggest sponsorship organizations and narrowed it down to the one I thought fit best with what I wanted to do. This just has personal meaning for me. My donation is made monthly by automatic credit card payments.

As for the other charities I donate to, I usually donate once or twice a year to each. The ones I donate to are ones that concentrate on issues that have directly hit me or my family. These are mainly Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Cancer Society.

If you're trying to decide who to donate to, just think about what you're passionate about or what issues have affected you or your family. Those ones are usually the easiest to decide on.

  4. yes lots of times, depends who is appealing at the time.

  5. Yes I have - decide on how much money actually goes to the people the charity is supposed to go to, versus the amount the charity keeps for their overhead,,.....If you had a tax exempt tax status, may even give you some my friend............

  6. Yes of course, but MY selection is random.

  7. Direct debit £10 a month, NSPCC.

  8. Yes

What works for me is to research the organization - on net is OK but in person is better.  Usually give to a place where I or someone I know have volunteered or been helped by.  I need to know what they do, how they do it, how they treat the ppl they help, how effectively and efficiently they manage the money.   Of course there will be some overhead (a place to do the work and someone to do it unless it is an all volunteer group, supplies to do it with) but direct help expense should be far higher than operation expenses.   My preference is to give locally or in an area where someone I know is so that there is 1st hand knowlege of what to is done.

Hint if you are for example giving to Red Cross for tornado relief in FL put on your check or money order what it is for otherwise 50% or so goes to national headquarters...nothing wrong with that but if you want to helpin a specific place or with a specific thing you need to make that known.

  9. I give money by direct debit to Cancer Research every month. I am also running the Race for Life this year.

I decided to support this charity because everyone knows of someone who has had or has died of cancer. 1 in 3 people will get cancer in their lifetime.

I am running the Race for Life in memory of my grandad who died nearly 2 years ago from lung cancer.

  10. I give a set amount each week from my wage to Barnado's as I thought it was a worthy cause. I frequently make donations to various charities who are collecting in our area. Mostly, Cancer Research, as I think that if enough folk contribute, at some point, they will be bound to find a cure. Cancer affects so many lives, it's about time that we pulled together to try and eradicate this awful disease...

  11. My advise is find something that touches you or connects you to the cause or charity. As an example, I gave a large sum of money away in fact all my Christmas money from friend and family to the Tsunami 3 years ago. The DEC web site is a good site to start on as it helps a number of causes and disasters around the world.

I have also donated money to  cancer charities as a couple of my family members have died from it as well as countless other friends and work colleagues.

    Remember...

What ever you do will be right and will be helping to support a great cause, charity and / or fellow humans in the world.

  12. Yes a few times. I think you have to look into the charity, and see what percentage of your donation actually goes to the cause.

Then decide what one you think is best.

  13. I go by the amount I can afford. If I had a lot, it would be cancer, or something. Marie Curie, perhaps, or MacMillan.

2 quid a month doesn't go far, so it goes to SightSavers. It's enough to restore someone's sight, apparently, which must make a bit of a difference to their lives...

  14. Both last year and this year we are raising money for 'Guide Dogs for the Blind'. We have a touring caravan and either run or attend rallies or meets at wekends and raise funds by people donating gifts for raffle prizes. All proceeds are then passed on to the charity. The caravan manufacturer also donates to the good cause too which is welcomed by our club.

  15. yes many times. well decision came from my own heart and feels to give. that's it.any charity that you feel is really help. thanks.

  16. yes its to animal ones

  17. Hello,

(ANS) I have two strands of belief when it comes to charity & giving.

No.1 I believe in the philosophy of the "give away" I give when I can, and give from a unconditional love. I give without conditionality without strings attached.

No.2 I give what I can when I can (I don't want to setup standing orders or put money into a tin in the street).

I have given money over the years to many disaster charity appeals, (for example:  Hurricane Mitch, Turkish Earth Quake, Floods in Africa to mention a few) and I have worked as a fund raiser to charities and raised money for people in India who have nothing.

I give what I can when I can.

    Ivan

  18. Yes and decide by the adds if one gets to me so much i check it out on the net, and what i love the most.

  19. Yes indeed I have, by looking at the work they do and if it's really beneficial to the people that I'm donating too.

  20. Yes,every month direct debit,I feel if I do my bit I will have better luck for it..so kinda selfish in a roundabout way..
