Did you throw up? Is that normal? What would you do if you went on one, and then you got all sick to your stomach? Why do people go on ride alongs aside from doing time for a citizen's academy, are there any other reasons?

  1. I used to be an explorer with the best police dept. in the Metro Atlanta area and I never got motion sickness riding with them. I did get hot riding in the back one time and he closed the window on us. lol. THERE IS NO d**n FOOT ROOM! Especially when your wearing police boots and a gun belt. Ouch.

  2. I can't honestly say that vomiting or even getting motion sickness while driving at average speeds is normal, unless you get motion sickness when you drive in your personal car.  Perhaps while driving at excessive speeds, performing a PIT maneuver, or executing special driving techniques that are not normally experienced could I see motion sickness/nausea as being understandable.  Have you ever experienced motion sickness before, for any other reason?

It may have been your nerves.  My advice would be to take some non-drowsy motion sickness medicine - Dramamine - and try it again.  If while on your ride along, if you choose to do another, if/when you get a motion sickness feeling, TELL THE OFFICER.  I would certainly be annoyed - to say the least - if I had to clean up a kid's vomit in the back of my cruiser.

Also, there are numerous reasons to go on a ride-along with an officer.  In quite a few departments, a family member can go on a ride-along with an officer.  Police explorers can go on ride-alongs as well.  Cadets in the police academy may have the chance to go on a ride-along, depending on the department.

Good luck with you motion sickness problem!

  3. Was it a normal ride or an exciting high-speed chase?
