Have you ever gotten an "A" in a class that you didn't deserve?

I mean, seriously didn't deserve - like your test scores were C (not studying hard enough) and just plain mediocre work.

What would be the psychological explanation for a teacher awarding an A grade that is not merited?

A little more info: i am 'different', and perhaps the teacher picked up on that and felt sorry for me?

  1. Not exactly.  I have received an A in a class in which another teacher may have given me a B.  In this particular class, I truly believe the teacher felt sorry for the entire class and threw out the Final.  I know I did not do well on the final and should have gotten a B in the class.

I also had a class where I received an A and did not put forth the effort, but the teacher had low expectations of everyone and did not challenge us very much.  I hardly ever studied and it was a tough subject.

So, to answer your question I have not actually been in your situation but I truly believe you get out what you put in.  You may have not put much in and got an A, but if you allow that teacher to set the pace for you, in the future, you will suffer.

Enjoy your A.  Don't you dare question it, and stop doing mediocre work.  It sounds like you know you can do better.

Plus, it's good to be different. : )

  2. Well this past semester (it was 11th grade) we were supposed to write a 12 page book discussion on a book of our choice.  It had to be off of a list of books.  So i chose The Scarlet Letter.  I really didn't wanna read the book and got bored just looking at the cover, so I used SparkNotes and wrote the whole paper using info from that site.  I never plagiarized, but I also never even read a page of the book.  I got an A- on the paper, which made me extremely happy, but i felt some guilt when my best friend, who actually worked really hard on her paper and actually read her book, only got a C on hers.

  3. No, but I got a D- in gym class once that I didn't deserve, I should have failed, but my original gym teacher was out for a few weeks right before the grades were handed out and apparently, a substistue teacher cannot fail a student. Lucky me I guess

  4. OMG, i dont do anything in my german class but i got an A+ on a test, it was so strange but i loved it.

  5. I think that this definitely happens to people.  And it's the teacher's fault, not theirs.  I had music class one year and I knew I didn't have to do much work at all, just like some of the other girls in class, just because our music teacher was a pig and gave girls good grades.  I did my work anyway, but still saw those girls getting grades they didn't deserve.

Also, in classes I have seen that sometimes teachers of a certain race (white, black, Mexican, Asian, etc.) will gravitate towards being more helpful and nice to kids of their same skin colour/nationality.  It's a shame.  But yes, lots of people get different treatment and "A"s that they don't deserve, for lots of different reasons.

  6. No, but I did get a B when I deserved an A. I was so dumb, all the other students wised up before I did, and withdrew. I was the only member of the class left, did all the work, got a B. Why the college let the class continue with only one student is beyond me, but maybe the dean knew I needed the 2 hours credit. Never worked so ard for 2 hours credit in my life. And got a goddamned B!

  7. yahh i think i did=/im kinda regretting it rite now.....
