Question:

Have you ever gotten that cramp on the right side of your stomach when running? what is that caused by?

when i run i usually get this really bad cramp on the right side of my stomach and it almost hurts so bad i cant continue running, most of the time i slow down, not b/c im out of breath, but b/c it hurts to keep going. please help and give me some suggestions. thanks.

  1. When you get this press on it with your hand and inhale and exhale deeply while doing so until it goes away

Ahh yes this would be called a side stitch.  It's just a part of pushing yourself when running.  All you can do is stay hyrdated and try to push through it the best you can.  It is just another form of a cramp.  Try to eat a lot of potassium before you run to prevent it... bananas are a good form of that.

  3. okay well it's probably the amount of liquid in your body.  You need a moderate amount of water in your system. drinking too little or too much can cause these side stitches.

    Also, you might not be getting a good amount of potassium in your body. Potassium helps keep your body's fluids in balance and regulates blood pressure.  so again, its all about moderate amounts.  Hmm.. try eating bananas. they're loaded with potassium. Good luck,  I hope this helps! :)

  4. ya i get those to. Its caused by stretching the ligaments that extend from the diaphragm to the internal organs, particularly the liver. The jarring motion of running while breathing in and out stretches these ligaments.
