Question:

Have you ever had a problem with bees in your compost bin?

They've been in there for a few months now, but the meter reader complained. We called a local beekeepers group, they want $100 to remove them and relocate.

Any idea, after we get them out humanely, how to keep the bees out so we won't have to deal with this again?

  1. what, is your meter in the bin? did they sting him? what a wuss!

are they hive bees or bumblebees? the former will need taking out at some point but what were the bee group going to do with them? if they were going to kill them there are cheaper ways.

if they are bumbles, the new queens will disperse in the autumn anyway to hibernate, this is the time to empty the whole bin out and line with porous woven plastic sheeting.

  2. Get a protective suit against bees, placate the bees with smoke, put them in a bin bag and take them to the White House for attention of George Bush. Problem solved.
