  1. I personally have never had a virus while cruising.  Cruise ships are great now as most have anti bacterial hand sanitizing stations in various parts of the ship especially just outside of the dining rooms.  Just make sure you use that all the time before and after eating.  It doesn't hurt to bring your own as you can get small 2 oz size containers that don't take up much space in your luggage or waist packs.  Keep washing your hands.

Another way to keep safe while cruising is to only drink the water on the ship.  You can't always count on the bottled water in different countries.  The same applies to food, fruit and ice cubes.   It's so much fun to eat what the locals are eating in different countries but if you want to be safer stick to ship offerings.

If you are unlucky enough to catch a virus then I hope you've also brought along some Gravol (Motion sickness) pills and some Immodium (or similar).

Good luck to all on some great and healthy cruising.

  2. Virus' are widely spread on a cruise ship because of the amount of people on the ship and the small area.  The same virus that is spread on a ship could be spread in a restauran to hotel, but not as easy since it is more open.  Remember to wash your hands all the time.  Most cruise lines have the anti-bacterial gel located everywhere on the ship.  If you touch a doorknob or railing, wash your hands before you eat.  This is how the virus is spread.

  3. Many times the norovirus gets carried on a ship from travelers, often caught on a flight.  By the time the passenger comes down with symptoms, the cruise is underway, other people are exposed and the ship is blamed.

So that's why it's a good idea to bring those little bottles of Purell and those disinfectant wipes aboard.  Also take advantage of the hand sanitizers that are stationed on many ships.  If you see someone passing one of the sanitizers, point it out to them.  Maybe they didn't notice the containers.

As for me, I never caught a virus on a ship. I have been bothered by hay fever, many from exposure to plants unfamiliar to me in some ports.  So I also try to take my allergy pills during the entire cruise.

  4. I have been on many cruises and never got a virus from the foods.  Many of the cruise lines now have a hand sanitizer when you board ship AND at the entrance to all of the dining areas and they steer people to them as they enter.

  5. We had a outbreak on a ship I was on but i washed my hands like crazy, used antibac gel, and did not touch railings, and such. Its a pain but so is being quarantined to your room the whole cruise with sickness.

  6. No, but there was this blond one time ...oh forget it!

  7. a kind of, yes.

but the reason was the water we were offered on a tour in egypt.

the tour-group get ill. it was no fun...

i do not know if it really was a virus.

  8. On NCL, they have sanitizing stations which is just a fancy name for a disinfectant dispenser.  They wouldn't let you into a resteraunt unless you disinfected your hands and they had them all over the ship if you wanted to use them.  NCL is pretty good with virus managment.

  9. only been one 1 cruise and got sick as a dog when I got home
