WHAT do i need to do BEFORE going for getting those braces

any precautions?

the doctor said i dont need spacers he will straightaway put the f*****g braces

Also, i CANT breathe from my nose am i gonna swallow the glue? Or my spit with the glue?

Can i eat something BEFORE going, or will i throw up? This has happened with my friend and the orthod didnt like it!!

All in all, WISH ME LUCK!!! :( at 16y/o :(

Also, is RED a good color?

Hi,  I'm 14 ( in a few days )and I'm getting my braces in a couple weeks!  People say that it's not as big as a deal then every one says.  They recommend to take tylenol before going to each appointment and to stay calm.  Eat a light meal before you go,  It's going to be your last pain free meal for a while.  I'm eating something I can't eat with braces on, I think popcorn!  You may swollow some glue ( I heard that every one does it!). Do what the ortho. says and it will work faster, and Don't get him/her P.O.'D!! They could make it worse or more painful on you to be mean!  People say that red mays your teeth look dirty, And they only did red and green for Christmas.  

People say that light blue and pink are great colors.  Heres a link at some braces colors..... I know it's kinda cheesy!

If your parents can afford it You might want to look into "self ligating braces"  They work faster than normal ones.  Heres a link to the one brand I'm getting.

plzzzz dont go w. red....ur gonna look lyk a vampire....do not get yellow brown or orange 4 obvious reasons, try the clear ones...i always thought those were cute nd i had clear ones.  dont eat w.in an hour of ur apptmt nd brush ur teeth b4 u gettem on....

ummmmm try having a peppermint or sumthn 2 open ur nasal passages.....

Before? Nothing really.. bush your teeth.

I was fine without breathing. There is nothing really to swallow.. its not like the glue runs down your throat. It is just a little bit on your teeth and then it hardens with this a light... so swallowing it is harmless.

DEFINETLY eat something before going, it could be a long appointment and you dont wanna spend your time starving. You definetly won't throw uup.. I've never heard of that.. what would possibly make you throw up? maybe being nervous. But you pretty much have to eat...

Oh, and red is NOT a good color it will always look like your gums are bleeding. Try something more neutral like black, grey, silver, or blue.

Every time you go back they have to change the elastics anyways so you can change the color to something else. For me it was about once a month so around 45-55 times. But black is probably your best bet.

Dont worry about it. It is surprisingly less a big deal than it seems. The day of you will be fine and your teeth wont hurt much after that...well its only a week of h**l. Stick to the mushy. The  glue dries on and you wont have to worry about it. As for the nose thing I had a sinus thing when I went in and managed to breathe through my mouth. Best eat before..your last moment with non braced teeth. Don't worry about puking. Just remember the goal. STRAIGHT TEETH!!!

Dude dont worry its not that bad!!! You can breathe from your mouth when getting them put on its easy. and even if u have trouble breathing just tell them before that youll give like a signal or something that you need a moment.

and yes you can eat something. really dont worry about it! its going to be fine!

annnd i suggest dont get red. my friend got it once it looked weird. go for a dark color like midnight blue or green :] thats what i always get and it looks good.

i got braces after wards it was painful to eat. you got to eat soft foods.

and when your braces is too tight you can feel it when your sleeping.

but then it stops hurtin. and you dont feel a thing. what sucks about braces is that food gets stuck inbetween

i had them wean i was like 17 and i had all different colors!!  i would not eat i got a lil sick filling to my belly! and no you wont that  is why they have the doc assistant to suck all that out!1!

Before getting the braces, the best thing to do is to calm down. Remember thousands of teens your age get braces every year and the procedure has only gotten better through the years.

You are lucky you don't need spacers, which in my experience, were worse than the actual braces themselves.

While having the braces put on, your orthodontist will tell you what he needs you to do to facilitate the procedure. The "glue" you fear swallowing is actually a very fast drying glue that they use a little light gun to speed the drying also. So don't worry about the glue.

If you eat before hand and get too nervous, you may get an upset stomach (I don't think you'll throw up unless you tend to when you get nervous) however, if you wait till after, your teeth may be too sore to actually chew anything. I would suggest eating something that you are unlikely to regurgitate (salad) and eat it a good hour before they start. Be sure to brush your teeth & rinse vigorously after eating!

Red is a good color, I would suggest staying away from green, as it looks kind of gross.

If you can't breathe from your nose, make sure the orthodontist knows so that he can accomodate you. Otherwise you might choke :p.

When I had my braces put on it was right after I had eaten lunch and I was fine. If the taste of metal or fluoride makes you queasy, I'd say put off eating until after they're on, but remember that your teeth will be sore and chewing might be a pain so have soft foods or liquids.

Good luck, and any colour will look good except for yellow or orange (they'll make your teeth look dirty.) I always get turquoise.

Before getting braces on the dentist usually cleans you teeth, well he did for me. So make sure they are clean just in case.

I didn't need spacers either, it's not a bad thing it just means that your teeth aren't terrible.

My nose was all stuffed up when I got mine on. You can still breathe from your mouth a little bit so it should be fine.

I personally stuffed my face before hand, I though if I couldn't eat good food for a while I may as well have it now. She probably got sick because she was worried.

Spacers are just used to push the teeth apart so he can fit the bands in between the teeth.

You won't swallow the glue and it isn't toxic. But you may want to use a little nose stuff (afrin etc) to clear your nose up. He will probably have suction going, so no worries.

Eat whatever you want, if you are sensitive to smells, maybe you should wait. You can eat again after the glue dries - a couple of hours.

All in all, it isn;t that big of a deal. Wait until you have the d**n things tightened. THAT hurts.

Remember to brush religiously thru this. And don't smoke or do anything else that may stain your teeth.

Red will be fantastic. He can change your color every time you have them tightened.
