  1. I was called once for Federal court and was excused because I knew some of the attorneys from the defendant's attorney's law office.

I served on three juries in County court, one civil trial and two criminal.  All three cases were very interesting.  They did a good job getting us out of there quickly if we weren't needed.

I thought one of the parties in the civil trial looked familiar, but I couldn't place her.  I didn't say anything because I didn't want to look like a fool by saying "I think I may know her, but I don't know where or how."  I was going to college at the time and figured maybe I had just seen her around there.  Also, I met a lot of people while my husband was in the military and maybe she reminded me of one of them.

College graduation was 10 days after the trial ended.  Sure enough, there she was in the other line almost right beside me.  And it got worse.  I saw her after graduation - with one of our friends from our car club.  She was his girlfriend.  He called me a couple of days later to find out why she lost her case.

Stuff like this seems to happen only to me.

  2. Yes and it was a joke! I was to get $6.00 per day to serve but my parking cost me $7.00!

  3. Yes, I have been called many times and picked twice.  Once for a civil case and once for a criminal case.  It's an interesting experience but I find most people don't listen to the judge's instructions or base their decisions on the actual evidence - they do it with their own biased emotions.  They should give a class in how to be a juror!!

  4. Twice. First time was many years ago and it lasted for 30 days. I was never chosen to be on a jury, but had to spend all 30 days sitting in a big room with about 300 other potential jurors. I read books, played cards and wrote a lot in my journal. This last time was vastly different. Jury duty was only for one week and I had to call every day after 5 p.m. to find out if I had to go to the courthouse. I never had to go. They also let me change the courthouse to one that was close to me. They dont accept very many excuses, but they make the time a lot shorter.
