Have you ever had one of these?

"Chance Encounter at the Supermarket"

I loved you once--

love you still.

It broke my heart

to see you hurt,

beauty tossed gracelessly

into the frost.

I wanted

to take you for my own.

You wouldn't

have me.

Yesterday, I saw you,

with everything

I always wanted

for you.

Happiness and peace

radiated from your smile.

We spoke,

you left, still not knowing,

and I found

my heart still aching.

I guess

you never heal

from your first love.

  1. there are so many different kinds of love

we have to learn them all.

..and i didnt see this posted the other day.. ?

  2. Your poem expressed a true heartache.  One never forgets.

  3. Ah, yes, I have written words of such as well, but with joyful heart of

what had been, and what was not to be forgotten.

I don't think one wants to be "healed" from the unfinished.

flame of love does not die, it glows to amber and old age comfort, loves

facets keep love alive in ones heart, for the joy of love for loves sake in

it self, not just romantic love.

  4. First love brings memories

    as those you rightly sing

but my love, my life, lives

    here with me, forever.

Ironically, what often happens when you meet old acquaintances is the comparing of 'aging.' and standing.  I don't do reunions.  A nice pen.

  5. I like the raw emotion and honesty and yes i have had many of them, including one recently. Check out my blog site in the source box.

  6. You are right...you never heal from your first love. That first feeling of pure emotion and passion, that first feeling of oneness with another person....something about a first love buries itself deep into the heart. I will never forget mine. This poem is one I can truly relate to, I've been in this moment before. Your words stirred up many memories, thank you Eva.

  7. I saw an old flame, I hadn't seen in eighteen years, the other day at the store. This poem captures exactly how I hoped she felt. I've still to run into my childhood Beatrice. I'm sure that day will spark a poem, hopefully, as good as this.

  8. I was only throwed into the frost once. The nekkid part was the bad bit.

  9. I'm one of the lucky ones. I married my first love.
