a long time ago I lived in a homeless shelter and there was this girl. she, I and this guy where sitting at a table eating super. she ask for him to pass her something and he gave it to her. then I ask for something and he said, "no". I ask him why and the lady replies for him and I quote. "that the man was using chivalry. which means ignoring any guy and only helping any girl". I am not kidding you. that's what she said. i did have a short conversation about it with her but she seemed to have a circular argument. now doesn't that seem sexist to you.

p.s. I ask know because I couldn't ask anymore at the time. it would of started a fight. but I do want to know.

  1. Alot has change and not for the good i might add, i was raised to be

respectfull by my father, who is right of the boat from the old country,

italy 2 be exact, he always tip his hat to a women, and i do the same

along with other customs holding a door open but this i'll do for a man

as well, as with anything, there's always gonna be a form of misuse

by some for purposes of manipulation, such as a player or womanizer

would do, with all due respect women are just as guilty of this, and in

the case of your friend, well it's really not my place to judge but in

defence of tradition and upbringing, i'd be derrilick in not defending

a custom of beauty, because it was abused so as to have it unfarley

misconstruded in order to prpetuate a modern day stereotyping of an

old custom , meant not be sexist as you put it, i feel the guy that your

talking about was sadly being a first class jerk, if you don't mind my

    saying so, thank you . . .

i'm proud of the way i was raised with respect and as a gentleman,

i feel sorry for todays generation who are mispercieving respect for

sterotype prejudices cause of a few misfits, and worse are slowly

erroding the concepts of the english language as to be derogative

in the  nature of there use which serves to do nothing but destroy

    beautiful past traditional customs . . .

Trust me, as gentlmanly as i can be, i'm not above telling either a

man or woman, where to get off if necessary using a few choice words,

as i would have done to this guy you speak of, even had he, been a

    she . . .

    peace instead of pieces . . .

  2. Chivalry is about being courteous to all people, not just women.

    So it was just stupidity.

  3. The guy was just being jerk to you.  Chivalry has a loose similarity with being courteous, although it does highlight it more with women, that doesn't exclude being courteous towards men all together.

  4. i think it is
