it happens when you put in a disk and its reading it. there are two that happen at this time.

1) the white one that means you put your disk in the wrong direction.

2) a black one where the only way to get rid of it is to unplug the power cord and start up the wii and try again.

i am talking about the second one and why does this happen? is there a reason? is there a way to stop it?

  1. Yea I have the 2nd one happen to me all the time, but its probably because I dropped my Wii be accident-LOL. But, it doesn't mean your wii is damaged it just happens, just unplug and try again.

I've noticed if you have you wii sitting horizontal it doesn't get the error that much- try it!

  2. I've never gotten it, but could you provide more details?

Specifically, what the error message says, and situations where it's occurred (even if it's totally random, the game and previous Wii usage might make a difference).

Edit: Based on what little I've found, it's most often due to either a bad disk, or a hardware issue.

Just to throw a theory around, Wii's do have rare issues with the GPU overheating primarily after being kept in Stand-by mode without good ventilation. It's not a sudden issue though; it happens over time and eventually kills your console. These screens probably come up near the time when the console is about to become unusable.

Of course, "hardware issues" is extremely broad, so it could be nearly anything. That's the most common hardware related issue Wii's have, that I know of. One way to see if it is a GPU heat issue is to see if some games have issues with graphics. Supposedly games like Mario Strikers have noticeable problems during gameplay, and there will be slight graphical issues.

  3. It's just a normal Disc Read Error, something that happens with alot of disc readers. It's no big deal, just shut off teh system & re-insert the disc. If the problem persists, call Nintendo.
