2 pets that were in such a debilitated condition, you couldn't choose which should be put down first? i ran into this in 2005, but chose to put the 2 dogs down together. they'd been together for 13 yrs and needed to stay together.

and i made the appointment for this Tuesday to send my 16 yr old cat, Ayla, and my 14 yr old Bandit to Rainbow Bridge. i've considered losing just 1 this week, but i think it'll be easier to send them together.

and i don't know which one is worse off. Bandits cancer is taking over rapidly and his hind legs keep going out from under him. Ayla looks ok, but if we pick her up when she's asking for attention, she lets out an awful squawk. like there's something hurt inside. and she's walking around yowling like she doesn't know where she is.

have you ever had to make a choice? and

do you think it's easier 1 at a time, or just getting it done all at once?

  1. My heart goes out to you. It is so very hard to let go of our dear friends.

I would take them both at same, as I can only cry so many tears.

  2. i have had this dilemma more than once. as they have been companion animals for so long than let both go together. then they have comfort from each other.

  3. Oh Isis this is the worst 2 at once, but they both need to go to Rainbow bridge. My heart is with yours in spirit on Tuesday. You know they both need to go to Rainbow Bridge together its better in 2's. They have been good and faithful companions to you here on earth, you will be reunited with them one day know that and be comforted.

I had to make that choice 7 months ago and Bob, my Lab is still here with me.Even though my husband got me my pup too soon after Bob died Cody is a blessing and a funny pup. I will never forget Bob, he was my heart.

You have other pets that feel and sense your pain and crying and it hurts them to see you like this, don't forget their pain also.

    Big Hugs...to your family

    Prayer for your family

    Oh, Great Spirit

Whose voice I hear in the winds,

And whose breath gives life to all the world,

hear me, I am small and weak,

I need your strength and wisdom.

Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold

    the red and purple sunset.

Make my hands respect the things you have

made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.

Make me wise so that I may understand the things

    you have taught my people.

Let me learn the lessons you have

hidden in every leaf and rock.

I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother,

but to fight my greatest enemy - myself.

Make me always ready to come to you

with clean hands and straight eyes.

So when life fades, as the fading sunset,

my Spirit may come to you without shame.

    Honor the sacred.

    Honor the Earth, our Mother.

    Honor the Elders.

    Honor all with whom we

    share the Earth:-

    Four-leggeds, two-leggeds,

    winged ones,

    Swimmers, crawlers,

    plant and rock people.

    Walk in balance and beauty.

Friend do it this way - that is,

    whatever you do in life,

do the very best you can

with both your heart and mind.

  4. Take them both.  While you will grieve for a while, they will be better off and in the end, you won't be tortured by the thought that you're letting them suffer.  And yes, I have had to do the same thing twice.
