  1. no... i dont even know where people get this.....

  2. Yes! lol. It was a young boy, around 8, the little stinker was teasing me, trying to get my attention. His name is George, and every time he says it, he grins at me.

  3. I do not have a clue. Perhaps Casper, started that. It seems like he said that in cartoons. lol I'm not a history buff, but it wouldn't surprise me if one used the word. Normally they whisper, growl or sigh. Sometimes they scream if distressed, and use vulgarity quite often. They tend to imitate other people's voices, and mimic things people say they are haunting. Love, Ivy

  4. No

  5. yes! casper =]

  6. yes, Boo in mario tennis. DUH

  7. Does my "source" count?

    EDIT: There's a second one... both EVP's

HINT: Turn up the sound, as these are barely-audible whispers, and they're short. Considered "Class B" or "Class 4" (depending on your rating system).

SUPPLEMENTAL: The word 'boo' first appears around 1430 and is actually a verb. To 'boo' someone is to startle them. Ghosts, due to their nature, startle people, and so therefore they 'boo' you. With a bit of loss on the meaning of the word, it eventually came to mean that this is the sound that ghosts make, which has carried into our modern context. The first words were to startle a goose, or to "boo a goose" which where we get "say boo to a goose".

  8. i havent even seen a ghost.

  9. It's my sad misfortune to have to say no that I have not. But I'll continue to keep my ears open.  :)

  10. Frankly NO, no self respecting ghost would go around scaring people who can't even see em in the first place.  Unless it was a child who wanted to play hide and seek and wanted to surprise you but didn't know HOW surprised you would be.

  11. can't say that I have...

  12. Hey Red my friend, that is what I was going to say.

  13. Good question! :)

The original meaning of the word "Boo" is:

    n., pl. boos.

A sound uttered to show contempt, scorn, or disapproval.

Informal. Any sound or word: You never said boo to me about overtime.

    interj.

Used to express contempt, scorn, or disapproval or to frighten or surprise another.

    v., booed, boo·ing, boos.

    v.intr.

    To utter a boo.

    v.tr.

To express contempt, scorn, or disapproval of by booing: booed the singer off the stage.

I suspect that it was first associated with ghosts in older horror stories/ movies (think back to Charles Dickens' Scrooge)and has been kept alive through the fun of halloween.
