  1. its from heat. its kind of a safe guard so you cant copy a recipt ad try t return an item u never paid for

  2. Yes... It is from heat.. Leave a receipt in your car in the heat and it will do the same thing

  3. Sure. The first time I ever received a fax (many years ago), I tried to iron out some wrinkles in it, and the whole thing turned black! That is because the machine it was printed on used thermal paper, which changes from white to black when heat is applied. It is possible that your scanner releases enough heat to cause this change in thermal paper.

  4. No.....but I *think* I remember something about a special paper that was once produced for documents that people didn't want "xeroxed": the copy machine light would activate some kind of photo-sensitive chemical in the paper that would blacken the original and render it useless to copy...

but now that I've read other answers, the heat-reaction answers makes more sense for contemporary printing processes...

  5. Yes that is completely normal if you have a home scanner which runs a little warm and you are trying to scan a receipt printed on thermal paper.

The best bet if you are trying to archive receipts is to use a photo copier at a copy center.  Photo copiers are fast and tend to run much cooler.

  6. yup, most receipts now arent actually ink on paper but a laser things burning the paper to get the lettering, the scanner has probably done the whole thing.
