Have you ever heard of a short hitter?

I'm in high school and i play volleyball. My strongest position is outside hitter- that's the position i always play in front row, and the position i cover in back row- and my coach as told me that i have a very real chance of playing college ball, and perhaps going further.

My problem? I'm 5'5", or 5'6" on a good day.

I know how to hit around blocks, but my height is sometimes a problem.

Have you ever heard of a short strong-side hitter? If so, how tall were they?

  1. I have heard of a short hitter. i'm not that tall. it just makes it hard for us and we have to hit aroud blocks like you do

  2. i have.angie pressy is 5'6" and she plays for Cal Berkley and she is amazing, she jumps really high!!! it might be hard to find a place where you can play as a 5'6" hitter but it is possible, i would suggest looking at D2 or D3 school and just be realistic, look at the heights of the current hitters and maybe ask the coach is they are open to using a short hitter. it might take some work but there are opportunities for short hitters out there

  3. I haven't heard of a short strong side or outside hitter.  What you need to do, if hitting outside is truly your passion and something you exceed in, is check for colleges with small hitters.  You're not going to find colleges with only small hitters, but I'm talking about smallER hitters.  Their program is used to smaller hitters and will open their arms to you, and they won't have to face the burden of working with a new hitter who is shorter then the usual.  Don't give up, you can do anything you put your mind to!
